Letter From Our Own: Caroline Torres-Menta, Nurse Practitioner at Cardiac Solutions

As you all may have  seen lately on the  News… dominating most of the hour, One of the most intense Typhoons on record (Super Typhoon Haiyan) has left my birth country, the Philippines, in an unimaginable mess.

It has claimed  more lives, into the thousands and maybe the  tens of thousands. Flattened countless buildings, created health crisis , devastated crops, fisherman have lost their lively hood- boats, flattened forests, flooded  villages and towns, collapsed and  washed away homes. Most hit was the city of Tacloban.

The President of the Philippines has declared the Philippines a “state of national calamity”. The Government officials have pleaded for Aid and pledges have begun to pour in from the United Nations, Europe, Britain and even the United Arab Emirates.

The City is in dire need for food, water, basic hygiene supplies and clothing.

The devastation in my birth country has made me reflect on my own blessings, how I am blessed to have what I have and to live in this beautiful country of the United States.

In my own small humble way, I want to help my fellow Filipinos, especially the children  and thought, if I feel like that  way, then others probably do too. Several years ago my family adopted an orphanage in the Philippines. I would like to focus on aiding orphanage homes in and around the cities ravaged by the typhoon."

Lastly, I would like to share a personal favorite quote:

“It is not how much we do, but how much love we put in the doing. It is not how much we give, but how much love we put in the giving- Mother Teresa, Nun and Noble Peace Prize Winner.
