A Guide to Living with Atrial Fibrillation

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common form of arrhythmia, or irregular heartbeat. While AF may cause no symptoms at all, it can increase your risk for stroke and heart failure. If you have been diagnosed with atrial fibrillation, you can still live a normal and active life. If you have diabetes or high blood pressure, you should work to control these conditions to reduce your risk of stroke. Avoid eating foods that are high in fats, sugars, sodium, or cholesterol, which can lead to heart disease. Do eat plenty of whole grains, lean proteins, and fresh fruits and vegetables. Quit smoking to further improve your heart health, and talk to your doctor about any medications you may be taking. Some over-the-counter medications can exacerbate arrhythmia, so ask your cardiologist which supplements and medications to avoid.

If you are living with atrial fibrillation, your cardiologist at Cardiac Solutions is here to help. Call us at (623) 208-5305 to book an appointment at any one of our five Phoenix-area clinics.
